The Wonders of Kyushu

I made this video for the JET Programme Video Contest at 27 after living in Fukuoka for a little over two years. My intention was to capture the everyday moments of beauty that moved me. I wanted to share these moments with people back home who didn’t know about where I was living or what I was experiencing.

All of the clips were shot on my phone. When initially shooting those clips, I didn’t have an intention of putting them together in any way. Although I enjoyed getting into the habit of amateur photography ever since moving to Fukuoka, I found that short videos were a better medium for catching an elusive sense of impermanence. The JET Programme Video Contest offered some external incentive to organize these haphazard clips and I found myself in an amateur self-teaching mode once more, this time with video editing.
