“CRACK TO OPEN”
I started this painting because I was interested in how an open pomegranate could resemble the cavity of a chest. The juice looked like blood, while the inside looked like lungs and alveoli, or the chambers of a heart. I thought it was fitting that using force made a mess, that the insides required care to pluck.

“FLOW”
This project started as an experiment with paper cutting. At first, it felt unintuitive to take away and work with negative space, but it was an opportunity think and work differently. Another way this project differed from the traditional oil painting I’m accustomed to is that I didn’t know what the final product would look like. In this way, the medium allowed for more improvisation and spontaneity.

“NEIGBOURHOOD PLANTS”
These prints were created with plants from my neighbourhood, picked during quarantine walks. All the leaves had interesting shapes and silhouettes, so they made for a good study of positive and negative space.
