JAPAN SCRAPBOOK:人生の宝物

A scrapbook highlighting my memories in Japan from when I was 25 to 28. (The PDF viewer may not be supported by some browsers).

PART I

PART II

I moved to Fukuoka, Japan on November 2021 to work as an Assistant Language Teacher in a public high school under the JET Programme. There were many experiences that I wanted to document so I started a scrapbook in 2022. At first, I just wanted to keep my polaroids, tickets, and other mementos in one place while arranging them in a creative way. However, as I continued to work on this scrapbook, I realized that it was starting to make me reframe the way I approached this rare and extraordinary opportunity.

Creating a spread of a memory after it had already passed helped me to sit with my impressions and think about what was precious to me. As I repeated this process, I became more aware of how these experiences were a gift, granted by grace. The process of creating a spread began to feel meditative. I’m glad that, now, I have an item that so accurately follows my subjectivity and presents my experiences in the way that I wanted to memorialize them.
